The regions that grow the best Arabica coffee in Vietnam

Vietnam’s Arabica Coffee: A Growing Legacy

Arabica coffee was first introduced to Vietnam in 1857 by French missionaries. While Brazil is the world's largest producer of Arabica beans, Vietnam, primarily known for Robusta, has cultivated some of the world's finest Arabica varieties in provinces like Lâm Đồng, Quảng Trị, Điện Biên, and Sơn La.

Two decades ago, Nguyễn Thị Hồng Minh, founder of Minh Tien Coffee, envisioned a closed-loop system connecting coffee growers, processors, and consumers. With a mission to elevate the value of Vietnamese Arabica, Minh Tiến has partnered with over 5,000 farmers across Vietnam's premier Arabica-growing regions to produce international-quality beans. Minh Tiến's Arabica has captivated even the most discerning palates in countries like Germany, Italy, the UK, France, Japan, and the US.

Cầu Đất Arabica, Lâm Đồng Blessed with a favorable climate, Cầu Đất in Đà Lạt, Lâm Đồng produces exceptionally high-quality Arabica, often dubbed the "Queen of Vietnamese Coffee." Varieties like Yellow Bourbon and Typica, among the first cultivated in Cầu Đất, are highly sought after by connoisseurs. Arabica is characterized by its bright acidity, mild bitterness, and a clear, amber hue that exudes elegance.

The higher and colder the altitude, the better the Arabica. At over 1,600 meters above sea level, Cầu Đất's cool climate and frequent fog create ideal conditions for Arabica cultivation. The meticulous hand-picking process ensures only ripe cherries are harvested.

Northwest Vietnam Arabica The mountainous regions of Sơn La and Điện Biên offer suitable terroir for Arabica. In Sơn La, coffee is cultivated on slopes and hills between 900 and 1200 meters above sea level. The region's abundant rainfall and cool climate contribute to high-quality beans. Sơn La is Vietnam's second-largest Arabica producer after Lâm Đồng.

Chiềng Ban and Sinh Ban in Sơn La are particularly noteworthy. Despite not being grown on ideal red basalt soil or at optimal altitudes, these regions' fertile red-yellow soils provide suitable conditions for Arabica.

Hướng Hóa, Quảng Trị Arabica Located between 350 and 500 meters above sea level, Khe Sanh in Quảng Trị has been selected by the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association as a pilot region for high-quality coffee production.
